President Putin chairs Kremlin meeting on development of AI, setting deadline of “AI Everywhere By 2030”

Russian President Vladimir Putin has chaired a meeting at the Kremlin, focused on the development of AI technologies, emphasizing their critical role in shaping various sectors such as the economy, education, and national security. President Putin (1) highlighted the rapid advancements in AI, particularly in language models and autonomous systems, which are becoming increasingly sophisticated and capable of independent operation; (2) stressed the importance of developing domestic AI models to ensure technological sovereignty and security, urging the government to create a financial framework for this initiative and to implement a National Plan for AI deployment across all sectors by 2030; (3) called for regulatory measures that promote rather than hinder AI development; (4) proposed that annual reports on AI implementation be presented publicly by heads of ministries; and (5) established a commission to coordinate AI strategy and development, focusing on education, risk assessment, national defense solutions, and international cooperation in AI markets.
