President Donald Trump has released a one-page AI accord following his Washington meeting with leading tech executives, describing it as “morally binding.” Signed by Trump and the CEOs of Google, Anthropic, Meta, OpenAI, X, and Nvidia, the document urges four layers of controls: external independent audits of AI monitoring systems, an independent board committee to oversee reports from auditors, internal controls covering cybersecurity, biosecurity, and chemical threats, and dedicated internal teams to ensure all controls operate as intended. The accord states that over time it may make sense to codify these steps into laws or regulations, but that participating companies are committed to implementing the controls regardless. The signatories will meet regularly to establish standards and best practices to improve AI safety.
