It is reported that during the first ASEAN-Japan Ministers of Law Meeting in Manila, Indonesia has proposed a special session between Japan and ASEAN to address music royalties and AI on digital platforms. Law Minister Supratman Agtas emphasized the need for a workshop on intellectual property, focusing on royalties from music and media content generated or distributed by global AI platforms. Indonesia is preparing the “Indonesian Proposal,” officially titled “The Indonesian Proposal for a Legally Binding Instrument on the Governance of Copyright Royalty in the Digital Environment,” which aims to promote economic fairness for creators and the creative industry in the digital era. This proposal is set to be discussed at the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) session at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva in December 2025.
