Legora collaborates with BMW Group to advance AI-enabled legal services

BMW Group is further integrating AI into its legal operations by rolling out Legora across its in-house legal team. The initiative supports the department’s strategy to enhance efficiency, strengthen knowledge management, and enable lawyers to maintain focus on strategic legal advice and risk management.

MUNICH, 8 October, 2026 – Legora, the agentic operating system for legal professionals, today announced that BMW Group is rolling out Legora across its legal department, giving teams access to the platform for research, review, and drafting. The announcement comes one week after Legora opened its Munich office.

BMW Group’s Legal, IP and Compliance function helps protect the company’s economic and legal interests, freedom of action and reputation, thereby contributing to its long-term success. Working closely with the business across jurisdictions, its experts combine legal expertise with a strong understanding of technical and commercial contexts and handle legal matters in-house wherever appropriate. The function has built a reputation for legal innovation: it was shortlisted for the azur Award for Innovation in 2026 and is nominated as in-house legal team of the year at the JUVE Awards in 2026. Its decision to deploy Legora reflects its commitment to making legal work more efficient and fit for the future through the responsible and effective use of AI.

“BMW Group’s Legal, IP and Compliance function is a strategic partner to the business. Operating across multiple jurisdictions, we navigate complex legal and regulatory challenges and help the business make informed decisions and move projects forward, often under significant time pressure. Our ambition is to create business value and enable decisive action by identifying and managing legal risks early. Legora makes legal research, document review and drafting more efficient, thereby expanding our capacity to handle work in-house and maintaining our clear focus on the most complex and strategic matters,” said Dr Andreas Liepe, Group GC, BMW Group.

BMW Group’s legal teams will use AI-supported workflows to accelerate legal research, support litigation management and contract review, monitor regulatory developments, and generate first drafts based on approved internal standards and precedents. The platform is being implemented in accordance with BMW Group’s applicable access, security, and governance requirements and works within the tools the team already uses, including Microsoft Word. The rollout is supported by a structured implementation programme supporting its effective adoption, in collaboration with Legora’s legal engineers.

“BMW Group has taken a thoughtful and structured approach to evaluating legal AI. Their focus on governance, quality and practical business value demonstrates the level of maturity we increasingly see among leading in-house legal teams. We are proud to support their legal team as they continue to advance innovation within the legal function,” said Björn Franke, Regional Vice President DACH at Legora.

BMW Group joins the more than 150 law firms and in-house legal teams using Legora in the DACH region. More than 13,000 lawyers and legal professionals in Germany now work in Legora, up from around 3,000 at the start of the year. Legora opened its Munich office on 29 September and is hiring across sales, customer success, and legal engineering. Globally, the company employs more than 900 people across 18 offices.
