Competition Commission of India releases AI report urges responsible AI practices

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has released a comprehensive study titled “Market Study on Artificial Intelligence and Competition,” conducted through the Management Development Institute Society. This report examines the rapid integration of AI technologies across various Indian industries and their effects on competition, innovation, and consumer welfare. While acknowledging AI’s transformative potential, the study highlights emerging risks that could disrupt fair market competition if not managed responsibly. To address these challenges, the CCI recommends several measures, including organizing a national conference on AI and regulatory issues, conducting advocacy workshops on AI and competition compliance, enhancing the CCI’s technical capabilities, establishing a specialized think tank focused on digital markets and AI, and fostering collaboration with international competition bodies. The report also emphasizes the need for ongoing government efforts to expand AI infrastructure and eliminate market entry barriers to ensure a level playing field.
