EU Parliament to criminalise AI-generated child abuse material

The European Parliament has overwhelmingly voted in favour of a directive that would amend criminalise the creation, possession and sharing of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) generated using AI (with 599 votes in favour, only two against, and 62 abstentions). The proposed directive also covers offences related to grooming, sextortion, and livestreamed abuse, while addressing legal definitions and age of consent issues across the EU. The directive, will now move into trilogue negotiations with the European Commission and the Council of the EU.
