Law firms still waiting on solid AI ROI, ILTACON 2026 hears

Despite continued progress in legal AI capabilities and governance at ILTACON 2026, law firm leaders say they still lack reliable metrics to evaluate their AI investments. Foley Hoag CIO Karen Campbell and Norton Rose Fulbright US CIO Alexis Collins told delegates that standardised ROI measures are difficult given the varied goals of AI projects, with qualitative evaluation often more meaningful than quantitative. Lawfront COO Axel Koelsch argued firms may not need to calculate ROI at all. Collins also warned vendors are underinvesting in interoperability, a point met with immediate applause.
