Hearst Partners with OpenAI to Integrate Trusted Content into ChatGPT

Hearst and OpenAI have entered a content partnership aimed at enhancing AI-driven user experiences. The collaboration integrates Hearst’s diverse content, including articles from its 40+ newspapers and 20 magazines, such as Cosmopolitan, Esquire, and the San Francisco Chronicle, into OpenAI’s products like ChatGPT. This move brings a wide array of topics—from local news to health and lifestyle—to ChatGPT’s 200 million weekly users, enriching the platform with reliable information.

Hearst officials emphasized that professional journalism must guide AI content to ensure quality and accuracy. Jeff Johnson, President of Hearst Newspapers, highlighted the importance of including curated journalism in generative AI, while Hearst Magazines President Debi Chirichella noted the partnership’s role in shaping the future of magazine content. OpenAI’s Brad Lightcap underscored how the collaboration boosts the platform’s ability to deliver trustworthy information.

Content from Hearst will appear in ChatGPT with proper citations and direct links to the original sources, promoting transparency. The partnership excludes other Hearst businesses beyond its magazines and newspapers.
