Womble Bond Dickinson launches AI Labs to build in-house legal AI tools

Transatlantic law firm Womble Bond Dickinson has launched Womble AI Labs, an in-house hub where AI engineers, machine learning specialists, and legal engineers will build bespoke AI tools alongside its practice groups. The team, led by Chief AI and Technology Officer Chad Ergun, is focused on automating repetitive legal and administrative tasks, including contract review, regulatory and compliance monitoring, and early-stage legal analysis. The lab extends Womble’s existing applied AI team and sits alongside its AI Champions Initiative, which now has 200 members. Womble has 42 offices across the UK and US with over 1,300 lawyers and technical specialists.
