Roc Nation lawyer sanctioned for third time as court AI hallucinations surpass 1,600

US Magistrate Judge Jennifer Willis has sanctioned attorney Tyrone Blackburn for a third time after his filing in a lawsuit against Roc Nation and rapper Fat Joe contained AI-fabricated quotations, calling the conduct “an outrageous breach of his ethical and professional obligations.” A global database maintained by researcher Damien Charlotin now tracks 1,667 court cases involving AI-hallucinated citations, up sevenfold from 230 a year earlier. Recent sanctions include four attorneys in a Mississippi fee dispute and Sullivan & Cromwell’s admission of hallucinated errors in a Prince Group bankruptcy filing.
