South Korea details economic, AI policy tasks to double growth in 2026

South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance has unveiled detailed economic policy measures to be implemented in 2026, aiming to achieve annual growth of 2 percent — double the estimated 1 percent increase in 2025 — while reaffirming pledges to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence across the country and to strengthen national AI capabilities. The announcement intended to elaborate on, update, or reaffirm policy initiatives the government has unveiled since disclosing details of its 2026 annual budget bill in late 2025. Notably, the government now plans to begin construction of a proposed national AI computing centre by late 2026, designate a city for self-driving automobile demonstrations, establish a presidential committee to support the domestic semiconductor industry, begin allocating investment from the National Growth Fund and enact special laws for AI-related projects if necessary.
