Thomson Reuters has unveiled Thomson, its first proprietary large language model, developed in-house on a strong open-source foundation with a $40 million investment. Built using decades of authoritative content from Westlaw, Practical Law, Checkpoint, and Reuters, and shaped by hundreds of subject matter experts, the company says early evaluations put Thomson on par with leading frontier models at a fraction of typical cost. It has been trained on less than 10% of Thomson Reuters content to date. Thomson debuts in Tabular Analysis within CoCounsel Legal, with wider rollout planned across the legal and tax portfolio, and sovereign AI options to follow.
