It is reported, at the 2025 Asean ICT Forum on Child Online Protection, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that Malaysian authorities are increasingly concerned about the rapid development of AI and its role in escalating online threats against children. In 2024, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) recorded over 11,000 cyberbullying complaints, averaging 30 cases daily. Approximately 33% of young Malaysians surveyed reported being victims of online bullying. The Deputy PM highlighted that AI now enables predators to clone voices, create deep-fake images, and manipulate children’s identities. He emphasised that online harm transcends borders and that nearly 70% of parents in ASEAN remain unaware of the full range of digital risks their children face. The Malaysian government aims to empower youth to use technology safely and confidently through a comprehensive effort involving ministries, regulators, educators, parents, communities, and technology companies. An updated policy has been introduced to strengthen safeguards against grooming, cyberbullying, sexual exploitation, and emotional harm, while promoting digital literacy and responsible technology use among children.
