It is reported that Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party plans to allocate approximately 1 trillion yen ($6.5 billion) annually to bolster the nation’s semiconductor and AI industries. This funding will primarily come from the regular budget for the fiscal year starting in April 2026, marking a shift from previous reliance on supplementary budgets. Since 2021, Japan has committed about 5.7 trillion yen to these sectors, with significant investments in companies like Rapidus Corp and Micron Technology Inc’s Hiroshima facility. The move aims to provide more stable and sustained support for Japan’s chip-making and AI initiatives.
