It is revealed by Hon Tatenda.A. Mavetera on X that Zimbabwe has approved its first National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy for 2026–2030, aiming to harness AI’s economic potential while responsibly managing its social and workforce impacts. This strategy is part of the country’s broader Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Architecture and National ICT Policy, guiding long-term digital transformation and innovation. The plan focuses on transitioning Zimbabwe from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy, promoting cultural values like Unhu/Ubuntu, and using AI to bridge the urban-rural divide. Key areas include talent development, digital infrastructure, AI adoption, research, ethics, and international cooperation. Flagship initiatives encompass a national AI competition, a centralized data platform, an AI literacy campaign, a regulatory sandbox, and an innovation fund. The strategy will be implemented by the Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, aiming to modernize sectors such as health, education, agriculture, and public service delivery through AI-driven solutions.
