US state attorneys oppose 10 year state-based AI regulation moratorium

A number of state attorneys general, both Republican and Democratic, have signed a letter urging Congress to reject an amendment in the Budget Reconciliation Bill that would impose a 10 year moratorium on state-level AI regulation. The letter warns that (1) “the impact of such a broad moratorium would be sweeping and wholly destructive of reasonable state efforts to prevent known harms associated with AI”; and (2) “this bill will affect hundreds of existing and pending state laws passed and considered by both Republican and Democratic state legislatures.”
