44 US State Attorneys General, led by Tennessee Attorney General, have issued letters to AI companies, including Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, xAI, Anthropic, Character Technologies, Perplexity AI, Apple, Chai AI, Luka Inc., Nomi AI and Replika. The communication referred to reports of AI chatbots engaging in sexualised conversations with children and allegedly encouraging harmful behaviour in teenagers, including suicide and murder. The letter called on AI developers to introduce safeguards against the sexualisation of children in their policies and noted that oversight bodies would take enforcement actions if the products cause harm to children.
