The Office of Data Protection Commissioner (UODO) has adopted an outline cautioning against the use of DeepSeek over data protection concerns. The outline (1) warned that user data may be stored on servers in China, which lacks an adequacy decision from the European Union (EU); (2) highlighted that Chinese authorities have broad data access without EU-equivalent protections; and (3) noted that generative AI models process vast amounts of data, potentially using it for unintended purposes such as training or marketing.
