UK research and innovation announces its first AI strategy backed by £1.6 billion investment

The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has unveiled its inaugural Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy, committing £1.6 billion between 2026 and 2030 to harness AI for advancements in healthcare, clean energy, public services, and high-growth industries. This strategy focuses on six key areas: advancing technology development, transforming research through AI, developing skills and talent, accelerating innovation for economic and societal benefit, championing responsible AI, and building world-class data and infrastructure. Building on the UK’s historical strengths in mathematics and computer science, the initiative aims to translate scientific excellence into tangible economic growth and societal improvements.
