UK Office for Science releases updated AI 2030 Scenarios report

The UK Government Office for Science has published an updated version of the “AI 2030 Scenarios” report which was first published in January 2024. The report explores the future state of the AI market in 2030 and recommendations for policymakers. Among other topics, the report recommends policymakers to: (1) consider the role of unilateral conduct regulation in addressing market dynamics, including behaviours such as preferential treatment or exclusive access, which could influence competition and the broader distribution of AI benefits; (2) consider establishing or strengthening specialist AI oversight bodies to support safety evaluations, international coordination, and the provision of technical expertise; and (3) develop governance frameworks to support transparency and public confidence, such as enabling individuals to understand, challenge, or opt out of AI-driven decisions as part of the development.
