The government has adopted the AI Opportunities Action Plan which outlines 50 measures to accelerate the development and deployment of AI. The plan includes (1) introducing dedicated ‘AI Growth Zones’ (starting in Culham, Oxfordshire) to speed up planning proposals and build more AI infrastructure; (2) increasing public compute capacity by twentyfold and development of a new supercomputer; (3) a new National Data Library to safely and securely unlock the value of public data and support AI development; (4) a dedicated AI Energy Council chaired by the Science and Energy Secretaries to work with energy companies to understand the energy demands and challenges associated with AI; and (5) proposed measures to regulate AI and establish a copyright framework that benefits both the AI sector and creative industries.
