In his conference speech to the Republican Party in Florida, President Trump has stated, among other matters, that he is preparing to place tariffs beyond Chinese assembled electronics to computer chips made in Taiwan, warning the tariffs could reach as high as 100%. President Trump made specific reference to TSMC, expressing intentions to move TSMC’s chip production back to the US (which used to be its base before it had moved to Taiwan).
