President Trump has signed an Executive Order which calls for “removing barriers to American leadership in Artificial Intelligence”. In particular, the order (1) sets out the new national policy “to sustain and enhance America’s global AI dominance in order to promote human flourishing, economic competitiveness, and national security”; (2) requires the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) along with other executives to develop and submit an action plan to achieve the above policy within 180 days; (3) requires all agencies to review, revise, suspend or rescind any existing policies, directives, regulations, orders and other actions that were taken under the now-revoked Executive Order 14110 that are now inconsistent with the above policy; and (4) requires the OMB to revise its OMB Memoranda M-24-10 and M-24-18 as necessary to make them consistent with the above policy.
