Pakistan’s Federal Cabinet has officially approved the Artificial Intelligence Policy 2025, a landmark national roadmap to transform Pakistan into a knowledge-based economy powered by ethical, inclusive, and innovative AI adoption. The policy is anchored on six strategic pillars: (1) establishing a robust AI Innovation Ecosystem through the creation of a National AI Fund (NAIF), Centres of Excellence in AI across seven major cities, and venture and innovation funds to support R&D and commercialization; (2) targeting large-scale human capital development—training 200,000 individuals annually, awarding 3,000 scholarships, and offering 20,000 paid internships while promoting AI literacy across all social segments, including marginalized groups; (3) introducing regulatory sandboxes, cybersecurity protocols, and transparency frameworks to ensure ethical AI use, data protection, and public trust; (4) prioritising AI adoption in key sectors like education, health, agriculture, and governance by launching sector-specific roadmaps, workforce upskilling programs, and performance evaluation systems; (5) envisioning a national compute grid, centralized datasets, AI hubs, and cloud-based resources to support scalable innovation; and (6) promoting global cooperation through joint research, cross-border projects, and alignment with international standards.
