OpenAI and Microsoft join UK’s international coalition to safeguard AI development

The UK’s AI Security Institute (AISI) has announced that OpenAI and Microsoft have joined its international coalition to advance AI alignment research, contributing to the Alignment Project aimed at ensuring AI systems operate safely and as intended. OpenAI has pledged £5.6 million, with additional support from Microsoft and other partners, bringing the total funding to over £27 million. This initiative supports 60 projects across eight countries, focusing on developing methods to prevent unintended or harmful behaviors in advanced AI systems, thereby enhancing public trust and facilitating the adoption of AI technologies in various sectors.
