Nudify AI services withdraw access in Australia following enforcement action from eSafety Commissioner

The eSafety Commissioner has announced that the UK-based provider of three widely used ‘nudify’ AI services have withdrawn access in Australia following the Commissioner’s official warning in September 2025. This enforcement action was based on the company’s non-compliance with Australia’s mandatory Codes and Standards, as the services were being used to create artificially generated child sexual exploitation material, having featured in high-profile cases involving Australian school students and receiving approximately 100,000 visits per month from Australia. Additionally, the Commissioner engaged with the global AI model hosting platform Hugging Face, which acts as a ‘gatekeeper’ for powerful generative AI models, leading the platform to update its terms of service to require account holders to take steps to minimize the risk of their uploaded models being misused to create child sexual exploitation or pro-terror material, demonstrating a multi-level approach to tackling AI-generated harm.
