National Telecommunications Agency reiterates its support for flexible AI regulation in Brazil

It is reported that Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has advocated for principles-based regulation of AI. The position was presented by Anatel’s Superintendent of Internal Information Management, Gustavo Nery, during the panel “National AI Plan and National Digital Competitiveness,” held Wednesday afternoon (October 1st) at Futurecom—the country’s largest telecommunications conference, held in São Paulo. Nery also recalled the participation of Anatel advisor Alexandre Freire in a public hearing held by the Special Committee on Bill 2338/2023 of the Chamber of Deputies, which discusses the creation of a regulatory framework for AI in Brazil. At the hearing, Freire advocated for a dynamic regulatory model capable of encouraging the ethical use of AI without imposing barriers to innovation.
