National Audit Office releases audit report on ATO’s AI governance

The Australian National Audit Office’s (ANAO) has released its audit report on the Australian Taxation Office’s AI governance, finding it to be “partly effective” with policy gaps and ethical concerns. The report also notes various recommendations for ATO which focus on enhancing its AI governance framework by improving strategy alignment, defining organisational structures, reviewing risk controls, aligning with ethical principles, developing AI-specific policies, establishing performance measures, and ensuring transparency in AI adoption.
