National Assembly Research Service clarifies that AI Basic Act would require video games to clarify AI use

It is reported that the National Assembly Research Service has clarified via its response to an inquiry by Rep. Kang Yu-jung of the Democratic Party of Korea that the AI Basic Act, which is set to take effect in January 2026, would cover video games. This means that video game developers that used AI in development must notify users that their product is based on AI, and they must implement a risk assessment and management system. This includes the use of AI for adjusting difficulty levels and controlling nonplayer character movements, as well as more recent applications like conversational AI for dynamic storytelling in games such as “Uncover the Smoking Gun.”
