National Assembly passes amendment to framework bill on AI tech development

South Korea’s National Assembly has passed an amendment to the Framework Act on the Development of Artificial Intelligence and the Creation of a Foundation for Trust, set to take effect on 22 January 2026. This revised law establishes a legislative foundation for creating AI research centers, prioritizing AI products and services in public sector contracts, and supporting new businesses in the AI sector. Additionally, it emphasizes incorporating feedback from users who may face challenges with AI technology, such as the disabled and elderly, into AI policy development and provides financial support to those struggling to use AI products and services.
