It is reported that Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal and Minister of Culture Heidy Purga have both ruled out the possibility of handing over Estonian-language data, including media content belonging to ERR News (i.e. English-language service of Estonian Public Broadcasting), to AI companies for free. Minister of Education and Research Kristina Kallas said this is a really important issue for the future of the Estonian language, as the corpus currently available in Estonian for use in large language models is very limited. The idea had been backed by Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs Lisa Pakosta.
