Mary Technology Raises $2.7 Million to Build the World’s First Legal Fact Management System

Sydney, Australia – June 19, 2025 — Mary Technology, legal tech startup on a mission to end “fact chaos” in litigation, has announced a successful $1.36 million pre-seed extension, bringing its total pre-seed funding to $2.7 million AUD. The extension was fully backed by existing investors, reflecting continued confidence in the company’s vision and progress—no external fundraising was required.

This latest injection of capital allows Mary Technology to double down on hiring exceptional engineering talent, accelerating development of its pioneering Fact Management System (FMS) and supporting a rapidly growing customer base.

“This funding allows us to scale confidently and push forward in our mission to give legal professionals the clarity and control they deserve,” said CEO Daniel Lord-Doyle. “With our Fact Management System, we’re not just improving workflows—we’re reimagining how facts are managed and leveraged in litigation.”

Mary Technology is helping legal firms eliminate the fact chaos between intake and real legal work.

The Problem: “Fact Chaos” in Litigation

Litigation teams frequently navigate thousands of disorganised documents—discovery files, emails, memos, transcripts—often leading to missed facts, inefficiencies, and lost time. This disarray, known as fact chaos, has long plagued legal professionals.

Mary Technology’s Fact Management System (FMS) is a first-of-its-kind solution to this problem. The system automatically converts unstructured legal documents into structured, searchable chronologies and integrates with existing practice and document management systems. It extracts, links, and highlights key facts directly from documents, giving lawyers immediate access to dynamic, source-linked timelines that surface inconsistencies and case gaps in minutes—not weeks.

“By automating fact extraction and organisation, we’re freeing lawyers to do what they do best: think strategically, build arguments, and advise clients,” Lord-Doyle said.

A Fundamentally Different Approach to Legal AI

Unlike standard RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems with a chat interface, Mary Technology’s approach is built from the ground up for the realities of complex litigation work. It takes disorganised, multi-thousand-page bundles—things like images, tables & charts, handwritten letters or reports and emails—and transforms them into clean, structured inputs optimised for large language models (LLMs). This structure is not just about format—it’s about enabling LLMs to extract and interpret facts with legal-grade nuance, such as understanding which document a fact comes from, what role it plays in the case, and how it fits chronologically.

One of the most powerful outputs of this pipeline is the Document Index—a new feature that automatically breaks down large document bundles into their original component documents, then gives each document a relevant name, assigns reliable dates, generates a short summary, understands that documents relevance to the case and categorises them by document type. A lawyer can now sort and filter based on the documents they need to interrogate, such as “show me every medical report for Mr John Doe between X and Y dates in chronological order”. Tasks that would normally consume hours of paralegal or junior lawyer time are now handled in seconds, freeing legal teams to focus on strategy and argument.

All About The Experience

The Mary team however, do not plan to fully automate document review—they are designing an experience that will support legal professionals, not replace them. Mary believes the human-in-the-loop is a permanent and necessary feature of legal technology. That’s why every decision made by the system—whether assigning a date or determining the relevance of a fact—is fully explainable. You can hover over that decision to see exactly why and how Mary made that decision. This level of transparency and control ensures that lawyers remain firmly in charge, while still gaining the speed and confidence of automation.

This belief—that legal tech should enhance, not replace, human judgment—isn’t just central to how we build. It’s core to why our backers believe in us. As Mark Kalajzich, board member and Founder of Lendi Group, puts it:

“What excites me most about Mary isn’t just the tech, it’s how thoughtfully the team has built for lawyers. They haven’t fallen into the trap of trying to replace humans. Instead, they’ve created something that makes lawyers faster, sharper, and more confident. The focus on explainability, transparency, and control means legal teams can trust what they’re seeing, and act on it quickly. It’s not about removing the human, it’s about enabling them to do their best work.”
