It is reported that a group of lawmakers from the Democratic Party of Korea has proposed a bill to revise the AI Basic Act, delaying the implementation of provisions (Articles 31 to 35) which are due to go into force in January 2026, for three years. These articles include regulatory measures on some AI businesses, including those for companies operating based on high-impact or generative AI technologies. The lawmakers said that there are concerns that the premature regulatory policies may stifle the country’s path to become an AI powerhouse at a time when competition for global AI supremacy is intensifying.
