JFTC releases report on the actual status survey regarding generative AI

The Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) has conducted an investigation into the generative AI market, prompted by its rapid growth and the associated risks, including intellectual property infringement and social disruption. This investigation aims to maintain a fair competitive environment and ensure sustainable progress in generative AI. In October 2024, the JFTC published a discussion paper titled “Competition Surrounding Generative AI,” which outlined the market structure and solicited feedback from various stakeholders. Following this, the JFTC continued its research, interviewing around 30 individuals and organizations, and subsequently released the “Report on the Actual Situation of Generative AI ver. 2.0,” which updates the market overview, includes insights on the autonomous driving sector, and reorganizes issues related to the Antimonopoly Act, thereby providing a comprehensive analysis of the current state of the generative AI market.
