Japan AI strategy panel finalises proposals for new AI legislation

It is reported that the Japanese government’s AI strategy panel has finalised its proposals for new legislation to regulate AI. It is known so far that the panel’s interim report (1) recommends introducing legislation to oversee AI model and system developers, AI service providers, and users; (2) calls for mandatory cooperation from domestic and international companies during investigations of serious incidents; and (3) is expected to form the basis for new legislation to be proposed in the current parliamentary session which lasts until June 2025.
