Japan adopts new intellectual property program

It is reported that Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has announced a new intellectual property strategy aimed at enhancing the country’s competitiveness through the promotion of AI and the attraction of foreign talent. The strategy, which looks ahead to 2025, plans to leverage the global popularity of Japanese anime and cultural content to boost regional economies, with an anticipated economic impact of around 1 trillion yen. Prime Minister Ishiba emphasised the importance of intellectual property and technology for corporate competitiveness and set a goal for Japan to improve its ranking in the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Global Innovation Index to fourth or higher by 2035.
