Italian government moves to drop data localization rule in national Al law

It is reported that the Italian government has proposed an amendment to remove a controversial data localization provision from its national AI law, which implements the EU AI Act. This provision, originally approved by the Senate, now requires a third reading in the Senate. Consequently, Italy is expected to miss the August 2025 deadline for the AI Act’s implementation, joining several other EU countries.
