Indonesia warns it may ban X over obscene content involving minors

It is reported that Indonesia has warned the social media platform X that it may face a ban due to concerns over its artificial intelligence chatbot, Grok, producing sexually explicit deepfake images involving minors. The Indonesian Communications Ministry (through the Ministry’s senior official Alexander Sabar) highlighted that Grok lacks sufficient regulations to prevent the creation and distribution of such content, potentially violating individuals’ privacy rights. The Ministry emphasized that all digital services operating in Indonesia must comply with national laws, which prohibit the creation or distribution of pornographic content, with penalties ranging from six months to 10 years in prison or fines.
