Indonesia eyes detailed national regulation on AI

Further hints about the Indonesian government’s approach to AI regulation have been revealed by officials. Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, stated that the new regulation would complement the existing circular letter on AI ethics issued in 2023, and that the government aims to create either a presidential or ministerial regulation to provide more detailed provisions. Komdigi Ministry’s Secretary-General Mira Tayyiba stated that the ministry is adopting a horizontal approach to govern technology utilization, aligning with existing laws on electronic information, transactions, and personal data protection.
