It is reported at that at the launch of Indonesia Cyber Crime Combat Centre (IC4), Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, has outlined Indonesia’s strategy for developing AI policies and fostering local innovation to strengthen its digital ecosystem. Key points highlighted include: (1) the need for a balanced regulatory approach, combining horizontal and vertical strategies to create structured yet adaptable AI policies that ensure ethical development while allowing for innovation; (2) an idea of developing an indigenous generative AI system similar to China’s DeepSeek, aiming to position Indonesia as a regional leader in AI technology; (3) the ministry has been implementing digital talent training programs and certifications to equip professionals with advanced skills and integrate them into industries; and (4) the importance of government and private sector collaboration to create a robust AI ecosystem, incorporating AI across multiple sectors to enhance operational efficiencies and service delivery while carefully regulating advancements to balance innovation with security and ethical considerations.
