Indonesia aims to build AI sovereignty through the AI Talent Factory

It is reported that Indonesia is actively working to enhance its AI capabilities through the AI Talent Factory (AITF), an initiative by the Ministry of Communication and Digital’s Digital Talent Development Centre (PPTD). This program collaborates closely with universities to equip students with practical AI skills, enabling them to address national challenges. In its inaugural partnership with Brawijaya University, students developed AI models to combat online gambling, achieving high accuracy and immediate government adoption. The AITF aims to foster a comprehensive AI talent ecosystem by encouraging universities to invest in infrastructure and update curricula, with plans to expand to other institutions and address diverse issues like child protection and adaptive learning. This collaborative effort underscores Indonesia’s commitment to building AI sovereignty and self-reliance.
