FTC Commissioner outlines FTC priorities

In his written testimony before the US House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government, Federal Trade Commissioner (FTC) Andrew N. Ferguson has outlined the priorities of the FTC, including AI, cyber, and privacy issues. On the topic of AI, Commissioner Ferguson highlighted the FTC’s enforcement efforts in reducing robocalls, and empowering innovation and addressing fraud in the AI sector. In his oral testimony, Commissioner Ferguson stated the FTC’s approach as follows: “We see how things go and then we address problems as they arise … Equally important is making sure that government regulators don’t intervene too early, particularly with a technology that is transforming constantly, faster than even its engineers can predict”.
