European Commission reportedly says technical standards for EU AI Act require more work

It is reported that the European Commission has shared its early assessment of the initial drafts of the EU AI Act’s technical standards being developed within CEN/CENELEC. The Commission has commented that the standards still have “a long way to go” to be officially recognized under EU law and points to recurring issues with the current drafts, notably in terms of alignment with the EU AI Act, the interplay between different standards, the burden on small businesses, and the level of precision.
