The European Commission has published the final Code of Practice on marking and labelling AI-generated content, a voluntary framework to help providers and deployers of generative AI systems meet the AI Act transparency obligations that apply from 2 August 2026. From that date, deepfakes and AI-generated or manipulated text on matters of public interest must be clearly labelled, and users must be told when interacting with a chatbot. Drafted by six independent experts with input from over 180 stakeholders, the Code covers providers (machine-readable marking) and deployers (visible labelling). It is now open for signatures.
