Collaboration applies UEL’s AI with Integrity framework within Edenreach’s proprietary impact assessment process, exploring how governance can enable innovation, trust and human judgement as AI-supported Justice Finance develops.
LONDON, 22 September 2026: Edenreach is working with the University of East London (UEL) through a UEL Knowledge Exchange partnership to implement elements of Dr Rula M Al Abdulrazak’s AI governance framework, developed through the AI with Integrity programme, within Edenreach’s proprietary impact assessment process.
The process forms part of Edenreach’s developing Justice Finance platform and uses AI to support the assessment of legal cases against defined criteria. The collaboration has focused on how transparency, auditability, review and escalation can be built into that process while retaining clear human checkpoints around consequential decisions.
The work sits within Edenreach’s Tech Enablement pillar, one of three integrated pillars through which it is developing Justice Finance alongside Funding Innovation and Storytelling. Edenreach’s technology infrastructure is designed to support the case-to-capital lifecycle, from sourcing and assessment through to structuring and measurement.
UEL’s AI with Integrity framework is one of a number of frameworks, taxonomies and assurance mechanisms Edenreach is bringing together as it builds the infrastructure for the new category. The collaboration has also provided a complex real-world environment in which elements of the UEL framework can be tested and refined for application within legal technology.
For Edenreach, governance is intended to enable innovation rather than constrain it. Justice Finance sits at the intersection of law and capital, two sectors where trust, accountability and the ability to interrogate decisions are particularly important. As AI enables new ways to assess and structure legal opportunities at scale, Edenreach believes the systems supporting those decisions need to be transparent and auditable from the outset.
AI can bring greater consistency to complex assessment, but data inference alone cannot account for every factor relevant to a legal case. Cultural, linguistic, ethical and jurisdictional context can materially affect how an output should be understood. Edenreach’s approach therefore combines AI-supported analysis with human checkpoints where outputs can be questioned, interpreted and reviewed in context.

UEL’s AI with Integrity programme was founded by Dr Rula M Al Abdulrazak in 2025 and spans the responsible use of AI in research, learning and development, and organisational governance. Its approach integrates governance into organisational systems and decision-making, with safeguards and checkpoints covering areas including security, data protection, accountability, inclusivity, cultural and contextual differences, human judgement, review and escalation.

“AI governance should not be something an organisation adds at the end simply to demonstrate compliance. It needs to be part of how the organisation thinks, makes decisions and designs its systems from the beginning.
“The technology will keep changing, so governance cannot stand still either. We want organisations to benefit from AI while preserving the human capability for effective judgement. The aim is not simply to govern AI effectively today, but to make sure organisations retain the knowledge and capability to govern it tomorrow.”
The initial application has centred on Edenreach’s proprietary impact assessment process. Learning from that work will inform how governance is incorporated into further stages of the platform as it develops.
The approach supports a wider challenge Edenreach is addressing through Justice Finance: creating the disciplined infrastructure needed for legal opportunities to be evaluated, understood and presented to ethical capital with the rigour required by both investors and the justice system.
On 23 September, Edenreach will join businesses, technology leaders, researchers and governance professionals at UEL’s Docklands Campus for AI Governance for Performance, a round-table examining practical approaches to building sustainable AI-enabled organisations. Edenreach will share learning from applying the framework within its platform and from developing governance alongside a live Justice Finance use case.
The collaboration is part of Edenreach’s broader approach to category creation: combining technology with appropriate governance, assurance, financial structures and human judgement so that innovation can scale with the trust needed for institutional participation.
