It is reported that as the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) antitrust trial against Google begins, the DOJ is seeking an order from the court that would require Google to divest Chrome and end exclusive deals with device makers. The DOJ argue (1) Google’s dominance in online search fuels its AI advantage, blocking competitors and risking control over future tech markets; and (2) Google could use its AI products to extend its dominance in online search. Google defends that its AI products are outside the scope of the case, which focused on search engines, and that the company will appeal once a final judgment is entered.
