Clio has acquired Learned Hand, an AI company building technology specifically for judges and courts, marking its first direct expansion into the judiciary. Learned Hand’s AI workspace connects with court case management systems to help judges and clerks understand matters, work through filings, conduct legal research, and prepare bench memoranda and draft orders tailored to procedural requirements. Its technology is already used across US courts, including the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, the nation’s largest trial court. The deal follows Clio’s August hire of former Casetext co-founder Pablo Arredondo as SVP judiciary, and September appointment of former Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack as general manager, judiciary. Learned Hand becomes the foundation of Clio’s judiciary products, with existing deployments and pilots continuing.
