Canada Privacy Commissioner expands investigation into X following reports of AI-generated sexualized deepfake images

The Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Philippe Dufresne, has expanded his investigation into X Corp, following reports that its chatbot, Grok, is being used to create explicit images of individuals without their consent. A related investigation into x AI, the company responsible for Grok, has also been initiated. These investigations aim to assess whether X Corp. and x AI are complying with Canada’s federal private-sector privacy law, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), particularly concerning the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information to create deepfakes.
