The Cyberspace Administration of China’s Order No. 45 on Artificial Intelligence Meteorological Application Service Methods has entered into force. The Measures regulate the use of AI in meteorological application services, establishing supervisory and regulatory authorities to monitor such applications of AI. They also establish the meteorological authority of the State Council as the authority in charge of “guiding, supervising, and managing” national AI in meteorology services. Specific obligations of the meteorological authority include building a database focusing on the use of AI in meteorology, as well as more broadly placing the meteorological authority in charge of promoting collaboration between scientific, academic, and private sectors on AI applications in meteorology while preserving intellectual property rights. The Measures further establish the national cybersecurity and informatisation department as responsible for administrative management work pertaining to AI in meteorological application services.
