‘Be careful’: Australian ministers urge caution over AI app DeepSeek

It is reported that Federal ministers Ed Husic (Industry Minister) and Clare O’Neil (Housing Minister) have expressed raised privacy concerns over Chinese AI chatbot DeepSeek, with quoted comments including: (1) “What our national security agencies will be doing at the moment is having a look at the settings of the app and understanding more about how it works before it issues some formal guidance to Australians” (O’Neil); and (2) “There are a lot of questions that will need to be answered in time on quality, consumer preferences, data and privacy management” (Husic).
